Digital systems streamline these processes by enabling instant access to cases, rapid retrieval of archived images, and seamless sharing between veterinary clinics, diagnostic laboratories, and academic institutions.

Digital pathology also enhances diagnostic accuracy and consistency. Image analysis software and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted tools can help identify patterns, quantify cellular features, and highlight areas of interest. These tools support pathologists in detecting subtle abnormalities, grading tumors, and evaluating disease progression. In veterinary education, digital pathology plays an increasingly important role. Veterinary students and trainees can access extensive libraries of annotated digital slides, allowing them to study a wide range of species, diseases, and tissue types. Beyond diagnostics and education, veterinary digital pathology contributes significantly to research and comparative medicine. It supports studies in toxicologic pathology, oncology, infectious diseases, and translational research that bridges animal and human health. Digital data can be integrated with clinical records, genomic information, and laboratory results to provide a more comprehensive understanding of disease mechanisms.
